Powerade Leinster Young Player of the Year Announced

Former Leinster Academy out-half Ian Madigan, 23, was recently named Powerade Leinster Young Player of the Year award at Leinster Rugby’s annual gala awards ceremony.

The award followed a number of performances in both League and European Cup competitions which saw Ian being rewarded with selection for the Ireland Wolfhounds team for the first time in February. The former Blackrock College player has featured in 23 games so far this season, scoring eight tries in the process.

St Michael's College received the Powerade School of the Year award for their achievement in winning both the Powerade Schools Senior Cup and Powerade Junior Cup competitions in the same year, for the first time in the history of the school.

Speaking at the awards ceremony on behalf of Powerade, John Coffey said: “We’d like to congratulate both Ian and St. Michael’s for their considerable achievements to date, and on being presented with their awards this evening. Powerade is a brand committed to encouraging active lifestyles and developing grassroots sport across the island of Ireland and we wish Ian and Leinster Rugby the very best of luck in their remaining matches this season”.

Powerade is the Official Sports Drink to the Leinster and Ulster Rugby teams, and title sponsor of the Powerade Leinster Schools Rugby Cup competitions.
